AU baseball team sweeps Claflin to improve to 16-11

The Augusta baseball team continued its hot streak with a sweep of Claflin winning the games 5-2, 18-1 and 17-2 over the weekend (March 16-17).

The Jaguars put it all together this past weekend with outstanding pitching and even better hitting.

Kyle Lodise led the Jaguars, going 5 of 9 in the series, and he hit a home run in every game of the series, one of those being a grand slam. That effort was good enough to get him the Peach Belt Conference player of the week award.

As mentioned, the pitching was at a premium this weekend with the staff combining for an earned-run average of 1.95.

The Jaguar pitchers wrapped up their efforts in the series by tossing a combined no-hitter in Sunday’s finale. The pitchers that contributed were Gavin Zoeller, Colby Garey-Wright, Brayden Howigren and Samuel Davis.

Claflin fell to 1-23 after the losses. They have failed to win in the last 22 and have their toughest stretch upcoming.

Augusta improves to 16-11 after the sweep and stays busy as they host Newberry College on Tuesday, March 19. They will then head on the road for a weekend conference series with USC Beaufort.

Next week they will take on USC Aiken at SRP Park for the annual Battle for the Paddle. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. and first pitch is at 6:35 p.m.
