AU men's golf team ends first day of the Jaguar Invitational in the lead

The Augusta University men’s golf team opened its fall season with a three-shot lead through the first 36 holes of the Jaguar Invitational at Forest Hills Golf Club on Monday, Aug. 31.
Augusta shot 17 under par and led High Point University by three shots. They were the only two teams under par after the first 36 holes. Belmont University of Nashville, Tenn., was in third place at 1 over par.
The Jaguars ended the first day with five Jaguars in the top 10—and all under par.
Chapman Barnett, a senior from Alpharetta, is competing in this tournament individually and finished the first 36 holes in the lead with fellow teammate Pieter Rossouw, who is competing with the team. Both ended the day at 7 under par.
High Point’s James Hassell and Jace Duckworth were tied for third place at 6 under par. Chan Lee of Francis Marion was fifth after carding a 4-under-par total Monday.
AU’s Andries van der Vyver, a freshman from South Africa, is tied for sixth at 3 under par, and teammates Marcus Goosen and Pascal Gunther are tied for ninth with four other players all at 1 under par.
Nicolas van der Vyver was the fifth scoring golfer for AU, and he was 4 over par and tied for 22nd.
Play began with a shotgun start Monday as the golfers played 36 holes on the first day. The final round will be played at Forest Hills on Tuesday, Sept. 1.
