AU women rout Middle Georgia, setting up showdown with UNG

Staff report

Senior Amari Jackson had 15 points and eight rebounds as third-place Augusta University whipped the Middle Georgia State University Knights 69-44 on Saturday, Feb. 21, at Christenberry Fieldhouse.

On Homecoming afternoon, the Jaguars improved to 13-6 in the Peach Belt Conference and 18-8 overall. That left them a half game ahead of the University of North Georgia, which the Jags will host on Wednesday, Feb. 25, at 5:30 p.m. Augusta won the first game of the season with UNG by a 76-68 score in Dahlonega. The Nighthawks are 12-6 in the league (17-11 overall).

An AU win on Wednesday will wrap up third place for the Jaguars going into the PBC post-season tournament.

Jackson got plenty of help from senior Camerah Langston and Quinasia Abercrombie, who both totaled 11 points. Freshman guards Sa’Niah Dorsey and Elyse Autrey added nine points each.

AU shot 47 percent for the game while holding the Knights (9-9, 16-9) to just a 26-percent clip. The Jaguars also forced 21 turnovers, disrupting the Middle Georgia offense all afternoon long.

Augusta was hot from the field throughout, making half of its 18 shots from behind the arc. That proved to be a big difference in the game, as MGSU only made a single 3-pointer in 16 attempts.

Sa’Niah Dorsey totaled nine points and four assists for the Jaguars in their 69-44 win over Middle Georgia on Saturday, Feb. 21, at Christenberry Fieldhouse.
