Auditions for 'Richard III' to be held Sept. 1-2 in Washington Hall

Auditions for Theatre AUG’s production of :”Richard III” by William Shakespeare will soon be taking place in Washington Hall.
Professor Doug Joiner is planning to host the auditions on Sept. 1 and 2 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Joiner is estimating up to 20 different roles in the play, which will all be available to students of Augusta University to audition for.
Actors are encouraged to enter the audition blind without prior reading, leaving the material fresh for interpretation. The presented material will be provided, using excerpts from the script for cold readings.
One of Joiner’s goals in this production is to tell the story in a modern setting, still utilizing Shakespeare’s characters while avoiding cliches of other modernized productions of Richard III.
Once the auditions have concluded, rehearsals for the play are planned to begin as soon as Sept. 8.
The play will be a relatively short production by theatrical standards, only running about 90 minutes at most.
