Augusta University held the inaugural Jags in the Park celebration at Summerville Campus on May 2.

The event was organized to celebrate President Brooks Keel who is set to retire June 30 after nine years as AU’s founding president. Keel has worked nearly four decades in higher education.

At the event, Keel said thanked everyone for their teamwork and collaborative work in the institution.

“I couldn’t have been more proud to be your cheerleader,” he said.

Rich Rogers, chair elect of AU’s Staff Council, spoke of the university’s successes with Keel as president.

“A great deal has been accomplished under Dr. Keel’s tenure,” said Rogers. “He loves to say he is the man who gets recognized for the hard work of everyone else, but without his leadership, none of this would have been possible.”

AU’s Wycliffe Gordon and others played jazz music while attendants socialized and enjoyed food and drink.
