The Employment Fair, hosted through a partnership with Career Services, Financial Aid and Human Resources, will occur from 2-4 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 23 in the JSAC Williams Ballroom.

Departments all across Augusta University are scheduled to attend with job openings, to which students are encouraged to apply–Federal Work Study or otherwise. A few of the many departments confirmed to be in attendance include Academic Advisement, Campus Recreation and Student Wellness.

Students who are interested in the event are encouraged to RSVP for the event in advance and to have a physical resume to provide potential employers.

“Working on campus helps students connect and build professional relationships with faculty and staff,” Julie Goley, director of Career Services, explained. “They can learn new skills in an environment that is conducive to student and professional development.”

Many departments in attendance may be exclusively looking for a federal work study student, while others will be open to student assistants. If a student is unsure as to whether you apply for Federal Work Study, there will be a Financial Aid counselor on campus to help them discover that option.

If they do not qualify, though, they can receive the same opportunities through the Student Assistant program. The only difference between these two programs, according to Goley, is where the money in the students’ paycheck is coming from. The funding is either from a federal grant, in the case of Federal Work Study, or through the department entirely, in the case of a student assistant.

This is only one other portion of the Career Services’ tireless effort to prepare students for life after college. They have resume correction and templates free for download, major and future career advice and many other services. If a student has a concern regarding professional endeavors post-graduation, Career Services can help.

RSVP for the event through Handshake, under the “fairs” section. This can also be found under the “events” category. Any department offering a position may also register through the same section as an employer seeking to participate in the fair.
