Intramural flag football league kicks off season

Augusta University Intramurals kicked off its flag football season on Tuesday, Oct. 28, at the intramural field on the Health Sciences Campus beside the Campus Recreation Center.
This semester a total of 16 teams are playing flag football. Typically, eight teams will play on Monday and eight teams will play on Tuesday.
This year something new has been introduced to the flag football league: One team includes women players.
“It was cool to see a team with women on it out there playing because that’s not something we have seen a lot of over the years,” said Medical College of Georgia student Jasper Dubberly.
The teams are usually similar every year. MCG and the Dental College of Georgia field a team, and some of the fraternities usually have a team in the league, along with other AU students.
Dubberly plays on a team called the Frauds, who are medical students. Dubberly’s team had a hot start to the season, winning the opening game 26-6 over the Mini Pekkas.
Next week they will be put to the test in a game against the Molar Bears. The Molar Bears represents DCG. They were also winners in Week One. A second DCG team is called the Dentalmen.
“This is always a fun game to watch,” Dubberly said. “It gets very competitive.”
The games on Monday, Oct. 27, were rained out.
Here are the scores from the first week of action, played on Oct. 28:
Mike’s Way 38, MNF-A 0
The Frauds 26, Mini Pekkas 6
Molar Bears 24, Greatest Show on Grass 0
Fellas 19, Hard Pass 6
