The Augusta University men’s golf team wrapped up their fall season with a 3rd place finish at the Pearl at Kalauao Invitational on Thursday, Nov. 6, posting a 7-under-par score at the Pearl Country Club in Aiea, Hawaii.
In the final tournament of the fall schedule, the Jaguars were led by senior Stefan Jacobs, who shot 8 under par, and sophomore Pieter Rossouw, who shot 1 under par. Both played extremely well and look to continue this type of play as they head into the spring.
“This tournament was one tournament I was looking forward too because it is a new destination to play golf at,” said Rossouw. “I am satisfied with my end result, if take the way I started in the first round. I had a little bit of a rocky start and after that I kept it together. My approach game and putting definitely helped me getting through the event. I can work on a couple basics in our off season to sharpen up my game for the spring.”
Along with Jacobs and Rossouw, Josh Dainels shot even par, Bo Blanchard II and Behn Heyns both shot 5 over par. With this being the final tournament before they start their spring season, this is the best tournament where everyone played well. They are starting to play their best golf at the right time.
West Virginia won the Kalauao Invitational, with the University of California at San Diego finishing second. Host Hawaii finished fourth, and Wichita State took fifth.
To recap the fall season, the Jaguars placed tied for 12th, tied for 17th, tied for 13th, 14th and third. They didn’t play how they wanted too overall but some of the players had good tournaments. Jacobs shot 6 under par at the Bash in the Boro at Georgia Southern and 8 under par at the Pearl at Kalauao Invitational in Hawaii. Rossouw show 3 under par at the Bearcat Invitational and 1 under par at the Pearl at Kalauao Invitational.
The team is looking to keep working in the offseason to get ready for when the spring schedule rolls around.
“Between season’s I will finish my exams and head back home to spend some quality time with my family and friends over the holiday,” said Rossouw. “Like I mentioned I will be working on the basics and fundamentals to sharpen up my game for the spring season.”
The Jags will begin their spring season on Feb. 2- Feb. 3 at the Battle at Briar’s Creek in John’s Island, S.C.
