The Augusta University men’s golf team finished tied for 17th with a 27-over-par score on Tuesday, Sept. 16, at the Coldstream Country Club in the Bearcat Invitational in Cincinnati, Ohio.

This was the Jaguars’ second tournament on their fall schedule, and the team was led by Pieter Rossouw, who had a score of 3 under par over three rounds.

The Jags were middle of the pack through rounds one and two but struggled in the final round. That resulted in AU finishing tied for 17th with Furman.

The team was led by Rossouw’s ninth-place finish. Stefan Jacobs finished at 10 over par, Mason Fundingsland at 11 over, Ben Lubker at 13 over and Bo Blanchard at 14 over.

“Our expectation for the week was to go out and do our processing routine. That’s one of our main goals,” Rossouw said. “It’s a result-oriented sport, but at the same time you want to do the little things correct and work through that and trust the process and then hopefully you will receive good results or get good results at the end of the day. And, yeah, I think for this week we did not fulfill our expectations. We were kind of sloppy at some stages, but there’s a lot of good still to be taken into account. I think for the team that just makes the team more hungry to practice more and get after it.”

The team did not play well overall, but the players still believe that they have what it takes to go out and win. They are looking to make some adjustments before heading into their next tournament.

“We’ll definitely have a week and a half of a lot of practice to be as good as possible for our next event,” said Rossouw, the sophomore from Paarl, South Africa. “So I think just good preparation, I mean good game and a lot of competition between each other too to get ourselves ready for it. At the same time just keep doing the same thing by keeping the routine in the process and still focusing on the main goal.”

Cincinnati won the tournament with an 18-under-par total.

The Jags next will compete Sept. 29-Sept. 30, at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, S.C.
