The Augusta University women’s golf team finished 11th at the Windy City Invitational on Tuesday, Sept. 30, posting a 39-over-par score at Glen View Club in Glen View, Ill.
This was the team’s second-to-last tournament of the fall season. The team was lead by junior Sara Adams, who shot a 7-over-par total, and Pundit Pawichai, who was 9 over par.
Even though the Jaguars are yet to crack the top 10 this fall, they are showing signs of progress heading into the spring, where they’ll look to push for stronger finishes and possibly a win.
With only a few days before their next tournament, players are focused on making quick adjustments.
“For the next few days, I’m going to just work on cleaning up my game,” said Adams. “Hitting lots of different chip shots, wedges and putting. So mainly short game! But also recover my body as well because the quick turnarounds are tiring especially with the travel, so making sure my body is feeling 100% so my mind can just focus on the game ahead of me.”
Meanwhile, Duke and Northwestern shared the top spot at the Windy City Invitational, each finishing at 13-under-par.
The Jaguars returned to action Oct. 6–7 at the Illini Invitational in Medinah, Ill., their final event before the spring season begins in February. At the end of the first day, the Jags were in 13th place at 5 over par. Sophia Valera led the way for AU with a 2-under-par round. She had five birdies and three bogeys.
AU will open the spring season at the Momentum Transportation UNF Collegiate in Jacksonville, Fla. The tournament will be played Feb. 23-24.
