The Augusta University women’s golf team finished 12th with a 32-over-par-score on Sunday, Sept. 21, at the Lady Paladin Invitational at Furman University Golf Club in Greenville, S.C.
This was the third tournament on the Jaguars’ fall schedule, and they were led by freshman Puntita Pawichai, who finished 4 under par over three rounds. She finished tied for seventh and had a 69 on the final day. That included six birdies, including ones on 17 and 18.
“My approach shots were really solid this week, and that gave me a lot of birdie opportunities,” said Puntita Pawichai.
Along with Pawichai’s score of 4 under par, Marine Legentil finished at 9 over, Jess Pilgrim (who was competing as an individual) finished at 11 over, Sofia Valera finished at 14 over, Sara Adams finished at 15 over and Danielle Higbee finished at 21 over par.
The team did not play that well overall through the first two days, finishing at 16 over on day one and 10 over on day two. They were able to shoot well on day three, finishing at 7 over par, which allowed them to move up two spots to end in 12th place.
The incoming freshmen are starting to show signs that they are ready to help the team win some big tournaments once the spring seasons begin.
“I’m really happy and proud of how I played, and I just hope I can keep this up and help the team going forward,” said Pawichai, the freshman from Bowin, Thailand.
Alabama won the tournament with a score of 18 under par.
The Jags will next compete on Sept. 28- Sept. 30 at the Windy City Invitational in Glen View, Ill.
