Augusta University’s men’s golf team took home its second straight conference championship, shooting 9 under par in the Southland Conference tournament at Comanche Trace Golf Course in Kerrville, Texas, on April 24.

The Jaguars finished 18 strokes up on the next team, Lamar University, which finished at 9 over par.

Taking home the individual crown was AU’s Cole Stevens, shooting a 6-under-par score and finishing one stroke ahead of his teammate and last year’s individual champion, Stefan Jacobs.

Jaguars’ Dawson Booth finished at one-over-par in the tournament, good enough to tie for fifth. Ryan van der Klis shot back up the leaderboard to finish in the top 10 after his shaky start in the first round. Dean Wilken tied for 18th to round out the Jaguars’ contingent at the par-72, 7,253-yard Comanche Trace.

The University of New Orleans finished third in the team race.

AU will now begin getting ready for the NCAA regionals which begin on May 13 through May 15 and will hope for better fortune than last year.

The Jaguars were placed in the Auburn regional last season and finished last, shooting 63-over par.

They will find out where they are heading next Wednesday, May 1, when the NCAA Division I men’s golf selection show takes place. The selection show will air at 2 p.m. (EDT) on the Golf Channel.

AU women dominate all-conference team

The AU women’s golf team found out earlier in the day that it will play in the East Lansing Regional as the No. 10 seed. The D1 women’s regionals will be played May 6-8.

Meanwhile, Augusta’s Kennedy Carroll was named Southland player of the year, and Jag Coach Caroline Haase-Hegg was tabbed as coach of the year.

Carroll’s teammates Emma Charles and Keira Gonzalez McCarthy were named newcomer and freshman of the year, respectively.

Carroll led the way on the all-conference first team. She was joined on the first team by teammates Napabhach Boon-In and Victoria Zheng.

AU has won the Southland women’s title three years in a row.
