Both the men’s and women’s tennis teams from Augusta University delivered dominant performances on Monday, March 9, sweeping Benedict College 7–0 in their respective matches.
The women set the tone early, winning the doubles point before taking every singles match to complete the shutout.
In doubles play, the pairing of Julieta Palma and Priscilla Landi secured a 6–3 win at No. 1, while Camila Taborga and Giovanna Patrocinio followed with a 6–4 victory at No. 2. Luciana Bejarano and Andrea Martinez secured another win via walkover to give Augusta a clean sweep in doubles.
The Jags carried that momentum into singles. Maria Gento opened with a 6–3, 6–1 victory, while Bejarano dominated her match 6–3, 6–0. Landi followed with a commanding 6–1, 6–0 win, and Taborga secured another point after her opponent retired. Palma and Patrocinio each added singles wins by walkover to seal the 7–0 result.
The No. 30 ranked men’s team mirrored that dominance in their own match.
Augusta quickly captured the doubles point with convincing victories across the board. Humberto Pinto and Alejandro Carbonell won 6–1 at No. 1 doubles, Alexis Bailhache and David Perret cruised to a 6–0 win at No. 2, and Arthur Valette and Tommy Matsumine completed the sweep with another 6–0 victory.
In singles play, the Jaguars continued their strong form. Perret battled through the most competitive match of the day, winning 6–2, 4–6, 10–3 in a third-set tiebreak. Bailhache followed with a 6–2, 6–0 win, while Valette earned a 6–2, 6–2 victory.
Carbonell, Redwane Bouhadja and Mattia Lenoci each delivered dominant straight-set wins, all by 6–0, 6–0 scorelines, to complete the men’s sweep.
With both teams earning 7–0 victories, the Jaguars showcased depth across the lineup as they continue building momentum in the spring season.
Both teams will now turn their attention to upcoming road matches.
