Augusta University is happy to welcome Max Amadasun to the Jag family, as well as to the Jaguar men’s basketball team.

Amadasun is a transfer from NCAA Division I St. Bonaventure. He is a 6-foot-11 center.

Originally from Dublin, Ireland, Amadasun decided on transferring to AU for various reasons. When asked about his reasons for choosing this university, he said his primary reason lies in the community. When researching student life, he noticed the close ties many have with one another. That was something that drew his attention to the institution.

His interests also lie in the computer science program. According to Coach Dip Metress, Amadasun was specifically impressed by Alexander Schwarzmann, the dean of the School of Computer and Cyber Sciences.

“Whatever they’re good at, they’re really good at,” Amadasun commented when asked what excited him about Augusta University.

Excellence is an important value at AU, and that helped bring Amadasun here.

Amadasun began playing basketball casually, but continued with it because of the amount of growth he saw within his performance. He said that the improvement is part of what pushes him to continue with the sport to this day.

The other part of this equation, though, is the people who believe in him. He said his friends and family that have seen him through every step of the way motivate him to prove their faith right.

“We are excited to have Max entering into our basketball family.  We look forward to him making an impact on and off the floor,” Metress said.

In particular, Amadasun likely will team with 6-6 senior Timmy Sellers to replace Tyshaun Crawford, the 7-1 center who is third all-time in scoring at AU. Crawford will be playing professionally in Turkey this coming season. He helped lead AU to three Peach Belt titles and a berth in the 2022 Division II national championship game.

Amadasun emphasized his excitement to study at AU and to play for the men’s basketball team. He also thanked the fans for always supporting him as he looks forward to expanding his basketball journey with them.

The St. Bonaventure transfer will begin his attendance at Augusta University in August.
