Don't miss out on an unforgettable artistic experience at the Sculpture & Ceramics Warehouse Gallery on the Summerville campus of Augusta Universitywith the solo exhibit, “Rabbit in the Corner!,” featuring the ceramic artist, Brian McGrath!

This captivating showcase dives deep into the realms of perspective, heritage, humble beginnings and the fascinating functionality of pottery. McGrath pushes the boundaries of his craft, exploring innovative artistic techniques while maintaining the essence of his signature ceramic style. Don’t miss your chance to witness this exceptional display, running until Aug. 28 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

During his summer fellowship residency at Chautauqua, N.Y., McGrath immersed himself in the beauty of the natural surroundings. He frequently remarked on the enchanting landscape and the abundance of wildlife, describing how friendly the local rabbits were. This connection to nature inspired his captivating ceramic works, reflecting the tranquility and charm of the area.

“The main inspiration came from the nature and being in a new environment,” he said. “The work came from almost a place of vulnerability. like, I was away from my normal home, my normal like rituals and the things I do all the time.”

The primary inspiration for his art stemmed from his experiences living in New York, coupled with the constraints he faced regarding his supplies.

The peaceful nature and its diverse landscape fueled his creativity, while the limited availability of materials pushed him to innovate and adapt his techniques. This combination of external influence and personal limitation not only shaped his artistic style but also deepened his connection to the work he produced.

He embraced the technique of sgraffito, a pottery method that unveils the beauty of multiple layers of colored clay beneath the surface. This approach allowed him to transform his limited supplies into a canvas of limitless creativity.

His craftsmanship is a must see and a beautiful sight to behold.
