Jaguars finish fifth at Bearcat Invitational men's golf tournament

The Augusta University men’s golf team finished fifth as a team at the Bearcat Invitational on Tuesday, Sept. 15, at Coldstream Country Club in Cincinnati, Ohio.
The Jaguars finished the 54 hole tournament at 3 under par with a total score of 849. Liberty University won the tournament at 15 under par, followed by TCU at 12 under and Cincinnati at 10 under.
Augusta entered the final round tied for third at 6 under par after shooting 283 in the opening round and 279 in the second round. The Jaguars were tied with Memphis and Louisville heading into Tuesday's final holes.
Pieter Rossouw Jr. was Augusta's top individual finisher, tying for 14th place. Rossouw finished the tournament at 1 under par after shooting a 73 in the final round. He also made four birdies during his final round. He shot 70 on the opening 18 and 69 in the second round at 7,279-yard Coldstream course.
Freshman Andries van der Vyver shot a 68-72-73 and finished 21st—second best for the Jaguars.
His brother, Nicolas van der Vyver, shot 73-65-76 to finish 28th.
Pascal Gunther had the Jaguars’ lowest score in the final round, shooting a 1-under-par 70 with five birdies and four bogeys. Gunter finished tied for 73rd.
Chapman Barnett finished his final round at even par 71 and finished 48th.
The Jaguars fifth place finish comes after opening the season with a win at the Jaguar Fall Invitational. Augusta finished that tournament at 23 under par, with Rossouw and Barnett sharing the individual title at 9 under par.
The Jaguars will now have a few weeks off before returning to competition at the Fighting Irish Classic, hosted by Notre Dame, on Oct. 4-5 in South Bend, Ind.
