Augusta University continued its Homecoming 2022 celebrations with Homecoming Hangout at the amphitheater Monday afternoon. The event, hosted by The CREW, followed up on Sunday night’s kickoff show and featured free food, entertainment and giveaways for students.

Starting at noon, students received their choice of Jimmy John’s or Zaxby’s and filled the front of the amphitheater for two hours of games, mingling and dancing.

For Madison Eason, a junior, the best part was the music that gave everyone a sweet taste of nostalgia.

“I was loving the DJ,” said Eason. “He was taking us back to middle school days.”

Eason is a member of Zeta Tau Alpha, one of several Greek Life organizations on campus that are taking part in this year’s homecoming events. Many fraternity and sorority members attended today’s hangout alongside their friends on the court and will compete in this week’s events.

“We’re here to support our sisters who are running and show our love to the community,” Eason said.

For those on the court, this was an opportunity for them to connect with students and hopefully earn some votes.

“We’ve been making good connections and meeting lots of students,” said Rianna McGahee, who is running for Homecoming Duchess. “It’s nice to find someone you have something similar with and use that to connect.”

All students should receive a message to their AU email sometime today that will include their ballot. Voting is open from Monday, Feb. 14 to Thursday, Feb. 17 at 11:59 p.m.

Morgan Bradford, another member of Zeta Tau Alpha, met a few of the nominees, but no one has yet secured her vote.

“I’m still in the decision process,” said Bradford. “I’m looking for somebody who is a good representation of our school.”

Students who want to meet the court and cheer on the participating student organizations are invited to attend the rest of The CREW’s homecoming events that will be hosted every day this week leading up to the games on Saturday.
