Summer is right around the corner, so it is time to decide and plan the best places to travel on your time off. Day trips seem to allow relaxation and excitement all in one.

As a student at Augusta University, the travel possibilities are endless. With Atlanta just two hours away and Columbia an hour away, Augusta is a perfect hub when it comes to traveling to other cities.

There are many day trips that are great places to relax but we narrowed it down to the top five best day trips that you as a student can take on either your spring break or over the summer.

1. Clark Hill Lake:

Located just 40 minutes away from Augusta, Clark Hill Lake offers students a place to cool off and get a tan while also being very close to home to allow for that easy commute back home. Be sure to bring your friends and have a great day out on the water.

2. Atlanta:

Just two hours away from Augusta is Atlanta, which is home to many fine places for students to enjoy from the Coke Museum, College Football Hall of Fame and Georgia Aquarium. Atlanta is a wonderful place for anyone to have a fun day with their wide variety of things that they have to offer.

3. Riverbanks Zoo:

Located just one hour away in Columbia, S.C., this zoo is a great place to see incredible animals like lions, gorillas and penguins. The zoo also offers students a trip to not only learn about these animals but also a place to see one of the nation’s most inspiring botanical gardens.

4. Tybee Island:

Located about two hours and 40 minutes away right outside of Savannah, GA is a beach for everyone to enjoy. Tybee Island also offers amazing restaurants right on the water to get a great meal after a long day out on the water.

5. Carowinds:

Just two hours and 10 minutes away in Charlotte, N.C., Carowinds is a world-renowned amusement park that offers some of the best roller coasters in North America. Not only does Carowinds offer roller coasters but also has an amazing water park for those wanting to cool off after a long day at the park. Wherever you decide to visit during summer, make sure to stay safe and have fun.
