'A Monster Calls' to be performed at the Maxwell

Doug Joiner of the Department of Art and Design will lead the Theatre Augusta ensemble in a production of “A Monster Calls” beginning on Thursday, March 12, at the Maxwell Performing Arts Theatre.
The show is based on the book by Patrick Ness and inspired by an idea from Siobhan Dowd, who died before she could write the novel.
The protagonist is Conor O'Malley who is coming to terms with his mother's terminal illness. He finds a way to deal with his fears through interaction with monstrous yew tree.
Director Joiner will be assisted by Ha’ani Ishmael and Justin Nguyen.
Thursday’s opening night at the Maxwell will be at 7 p.m.
The play continues with shows on March 13 at 7 p.m., March 14 at 7 p.m. and March 15 at 3 p.m.
“A Monster Calls” is open to the public. Admission is free for AU students, faculty and staff with a valid ID. The same applies for East Georgia students, faculty and staff.
Tickets for the general public are $10 each. Seniors (60 and above) are $7. Military are also $7.
Children and students with valid school ID are also free.
