At the beginning of the week, the Augusta University men’s golf team headed to North Myrtle Beach, S.C., for the Surf Club Invitational held March 9-10.
The first round of the tournament was delayed due to foggy weather, and a shotgun start was held at 9:30 a.m.
Freshman Josh Daniels led the team in round one, shooting a 67 to finish with a 4-under-par score, recording an eagle on the fifth hole.
The momentum carried into round two as the Jaguars finished at 9 under par, their best round of the tournament.
After a tough start to the season, Senior Bo Blanchard took the team lead, shooting a 67 to finish with a 4-under-par total.
Day two for the Jaguars wrapped up round three, with Dean Wilken posting his best score of the tournament, a 68 (3 under par).
Blanchard earned a spot in the top 20 overall, finishing in 14th with a score of 5 under par.
Daniels, Pieter Rossouw and Wilken tied for 23rd at 3 under par.
Chapman Barnett finished in 49th at 2 over par.
The Jaguars finished in third with a total of 15 under par.
While the leaderboard may have shown low scores that seemed promising the team felt it was not enough.
“On the leaderboard yes, but it was not a strong event, so we need to up the game,” Rossouw said.
The Jaguars have a quick turnaround to reflect before their next tournament.
The men will head to Statesboro to compete in the Schenkel Invitational on March 13-15.
