The Augusta University women’s tennis team delivered a dominant performance at the Newman Tennis Center on March 3, sweeping all three doubles courts and controlling singles play to secure a commanding 6-1 victory.
The Jaguars set the tone early in doubles action. At No. 1, Andrea Gonzales and Maria Gento earned a 6-2 win, followed by a 6-1 victory by Priscilla Landi and Julieta Palma at No. 2 and a 6-3 finish by Camila Tabroga and Giovanna Patrocinio at No. 3 to clinch the doubles point in convincing fashion.
Carrying that momentum into singles, the Jaguars continued to overpower their opponents.
At No. 2 singles, Gento continued the dominant performance, defeating Pawarada Thaimuangphol in straight sets with scores of 6-2 and 6-1. Luciana Bejarano was sharp at No. 3 singles, rolling to yet another straight sets victory against Mila Salazar while only dropping one game in the first set (6-1, 6-0).
Landi added another straight-sets victory at No. 4 singles, winning 6-1, 6-1 in dominant fashion. Taborga followed with a strong 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 5 against Dana Espianoza, while Patrocinio closed out the day in emphatic style with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep at No. 6 against Isabella Roa.
With control in both doubles and singles play, Augusta showcased its depth and consistency across the lineup, defending home court in front of the Newman Tennis Center crowd.
The Jaguars will look to carry this momentum into their next matchup as they will share the Newman Tennis Center with the men’s tennis team on Saturday, March 7 as they will face Auburn University Montgomery. First serves are scheduled for 2 p.m.
