AU shifts to remote operations amid winter weather concerns

Augusta University announced Sunday that it will move all classes and campus operations to a remote format on Monday, Feb. 2, as winter weather continues to impact the Central Savannah River Area. The decision follows snowfall totals of up to five inches over the weekend and forecasts predicting dangerously low temperatures and icy road conditions.
University officials cited safety as the primary reason for the shift, noting the increased risk of black ice and hazardous travel conditions. As a result, all in-person classes, events, and activities scheduled for Monday have been canceled, with instruction and office operations continuing virtually.
Faculty members have been instructed to coordinate with their department leadership to ensure courses continue smoothly through online learning. Most university employees will work remotely, while essential personnel will be notified directly if they are required to report to campus. Students and faculty involved in clinical programs will receive separate guidance from their respective academic leaders.
On-campus housing will remain open for residents, and dining services will operate on a modified schedule. Atrium Dining is set to offer brunch and dinner hours, while additional information regarding transportation and dining will be shared by Housing and Residence Life. Students in need of assistance during the cold weather are encouraged to contact the Office of the Dean of Students.
Several campus facilities, including libraries, the recreation center, and student activity buildings, will be closed throughout the day. Shuttle service updates will be communicated through the PassioGo app.
The university is urging the campus community to avoid unnecessary travel, dress appropriately for extreme cold, and remain alert to further updates through official Augusta University communication channels.
