AU's Jourdain finishes second in 5,000 meters at Tryon Banked Invitational

Augusta University freshman Gabby Jourdain took second place in the 5,000-meter run on Friday, Jan. 30, in the Tryon Banked Invitational indoor track and field meet in Mill Spring, N.C.
Jourdain ran the 5K in 18 minutes and 17.41 seconds to finish second behind Lander’s Carly Fuel, who ran the event in 18:03.95. AU’s Danielle Thayer took seventh.
On the men’s side, AU’s Andrew Helfers took sixth place in the 3,000 meters. Helfers ran a 8:42.26. Freshman Caleb Darsey finished ninth in the 5K. Darsey ran a 15:29.10 for the Jaguars.
The women’s 4x400 relay team brought home a winner in the fourth section of that event. Running for Augusta were Ava Adams, Madison Mitchell, Thanna Davis and Cameron Wade. The Jaguar 4x400 team finished in 4:15.54 to win by almost 12 seconds over a team from Bluefield State.
AU’s Mitchell Jean Baptiste finished fourth in the high jump with a leap of 6 feet, 6 inches. Teammates Gabriel Carson and Devin Barolette finished eighth and 10th respectively in the 300 meters.
The Jaguars will next compete in the Tyron Mid-Winter Invitational on Feb. 13-14, again in Mill Spring.
AU’s Brock Ferguson races in his first event as a Jaguar after a long recovery from injury. He ran a time 5 minutes and 2.8 seconds in the mile at the Tryon Banked Invitational.
