Constitution Day to be held at Augusta University on Sept. 17

Augusta University will host Constitution Day 2026 on Thursday, Sept. 17, in the Roscoe Williams Ballroom of the Jaguar Student Activities Center.
The event features a serial reading of the entire Constitution, which will be begin at noon. Before that, beginning at 11:30 a.m., there will be a trivia quiz with those performing the best on the quiz receiving prizes.
AU’s Army ROTC will be providing floor standing U.S. and Georgia flags for saying the pledge.
Pamplin College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Science Dean Kim Davies will offer welcoming remarks, lead the pledge, and introduce President Russell T. Keen.
“Constitution Day at AU is one of my favorite events, not only because it is fun, but because it is an inspiring display of community,” said AU’s David Kearns, who oversees the event. “The U.S. Constitution gives our laws legitimacy, and during this event, members of our University Community and the greater CSRA join to read the Constitution aloud and examine its meaning. It provides a venue where partisanship is discarded to recognize our compact with each other and to celebrate our common bond. It fulfills one of Thomas Jefferson’s core principles, that a well-informed electorate is a prerequisite for democracy.”
The event is sponsored by the AU Libraries, Pamplin College, the Department of Communication & Integrated Studies, and the Department of Social Sciences.
The event is open to the public.
Constitution Day and Citizenship Day were created by a joint resolution of Congress in 1952. It was amended in 2004 by Sen. Robert Byrd of West Virginia. That amendment requires all educational institutions to have a mandatory activity each Sept. 17. All school receiving federal funding must comply.
