Game on: AU intramural sports keep Jags competing and connected

If you want to play competitive sports but don’t play on a varsity team, then intramural sports is the way to go.

Whether you are a former high school athlete or just looking to have some fun, AU’s intramural program has a place for you.

Intramural sports give opportunity for students to stay healthy, and in shape while competing, and showing their skills.

Intramurals are one of the best ways to bring the campus together for some fun activities. This is great for everyone, and it encourages fitness and teamwork. This also builds the community and helps reduce stress and improve mental health.

Here is where skills do not matter; rather, it’s about everyone having a good time. AU intramural sports are a great opportunity for student to take a little break from school and have some fun—and make new friends.

Augusta Medical student, Jasper Dubberly said “It’s a great time to get your friends together and go out and play flag football with some good competition. I enjoy it because it gives me something else to look forward to throughout the week.”

At the end of every season, the champions receive a T-shirt with plenty of bragging rights.

If your team is very dominant there is a chance your team will be sent to compete in regional tournaments against other Universities.

Augusta intermural offers a wide range of sports every semester. Fall semester includes volleyball (already finished), 3v3 basketball (also finished), flag football, soccer, pickleball, dodgeball, weightlifting and rock climbing.

In the spring semester, they will offer a variety of different sports, please be on the lookout for those to be announced.

Volleyball, basketball and flag football tend to be the most popular intramural sports at AU>

Pickleball started on October. 13. Flag football and soccer began on Oct 20. Registration for rock climbing and weightlifting will end on Nov. 14. All sports registration opens on the first day of the semester and closes a week before that season starts.

“Things have been a little different this semester, our field is being overhauled,” said Intramural coordinator Bryan Waller.

A company came out and put a drainage system underground to help the field drain better after it has rained, and a new sprinkler system and fresh sod were also put in place.

The following facilities will be used for all events, including Christenberry Fieldhouse, the AU Campus Recreation Center, Jaguar Park and Summerville Campus game room in the JSAC.

With new additions to intramural sports this year, a larger turnout is expected, so students are advised to sign up today.
