Augusta University’s Office of Career Services is hosting its annual Jaguar Job Fair at Christenberry Fieldhouse on Friday, March 22, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Students and alumni will be able to take advantage of employment and career-building opportunities, as over 70 employers are expected to be present.

Sharn Vericella, assistant director and career consultant at the Career Services office, said that the job fair has a great outward benefit to the community.

“Our students are our number one focus obviously but it’s also benefiting our employers in the area, our partners in the area,” said Vericella. “They count on this. They count on recruitment.”

Employers aren’t limited to the CSRA, but they range from several areas across the state including the Atlanta or Savannah.

“Some students want to stay local but then having that wider exposure, we did try to bring in some other employers as well,” said Shameka Middleton, a career consultant at the Career Services office.

In addition to the presence of employers, there will also be tables promoting graduate school options. Leading up to the event, the Career Services office hosted several workshops for students to prepare for the job fair, including its annual JC Penney Suit Up day for students to shop for professional attire. Adherence to a professional dress code is required.

Those attending should plan to bring multiple print copies of their resume with them to the job fair.

“Your resume is your document that kind of speaks for you before you’re able to speak for yourself with an employer, often times,” said Middleton.

Resumes should be kept to one page, though some resumes can look different depending on the profession and work experience.

“Each industry, the resume may look a little different,” she said.

Students are recommended to meet with a career advisor who can assist them with any changes they should make concerning their resumes.

Students are also recommended to practice their elevator pitches, a “30-second commercial” when introducing themselves, to highlight their strengths and what they can offer to potential employers.

Students can also use free resources like Hiration and Handshake.
