Jourdain gets victory in women's 5,000 meters at Tryon Winter Classic

Augusta University’s Gabby Jourdain won the women’s 5,000-meter run at the Tryon Winter Classis in Mill Spring, N.C., on Friday, Jan. 16.
Jourdain, a freshman from Sandy Run, S.C., finished in 18 minutes and 37.35 seconds in the indoor event, winning by 29 seconds. That was a personal record. Teammate Lily McDonald finished fifth in the race, and AU’s Carlee Hodges was seventh.
On the men’s side, the Jaguars’ Elijah Fitts finished second with a time of 15:37.74 in the 5,000 meters. Teammate Mitchell Jean Baptiste tied for second in the high jump.
On Saturday, Jan. 17, AU’s Gabriel Best finished fifth in the 3,000 meters in 8:41.58. Also on Saturday, AU’s Kobe Mitchell finished fourth in the 60 meters.
Coach Jacob Burgamy’s teams will be back in action on Jan. 30 in the Tryon Banked Invitational, again in Mill Spring, N.C.
