The Augusta University women’s golf team finished 14th at the Illini Women’s Invitational at Medinah on Tuesday, Oct. 7, posting a 19-over-par score at Medinah CC in Medinah, Ill.
This was the team’s last tournament on the Jaguars’ fall schedule. The team was led by junior Sara Adams, who shot 1 over par. This was the best she has played all fall, and that is exactly how she wanted to finish.
“I took the good things from the Windy City Tournament and just focused on what I didn’t do well on and practiced them the few days leading up to the Illini tournament,” said Adams. “It helped with going to the same place back to back, so having similar greens and rough was easier to adapt to since we just played it.”
Along with Adam’s score of 1 over par, Puntita Pawichai finished 3 over par, Sofia Valera finished 4 over par and Marine Legentil finished 12 over par. Jess Pilgrim and Keira Gonzalez-McCarthy only played the first two rounds. Jess Pilgrim shot 75-80 and Keira Gonzalez-McCarthy shot 74-74.
The freshman are are showing lots of signs that they are not going to slow down when the spring seasons gets here. Also, the returners are playing well too. This fall looked very promising for all the players and they are expecting to keep putting up the goods scores in the spring.
“A big thing I want to work on is hitting my targets better and short game,” said Adams. “I feel I lost the most strokes this fall with just missing in bad spots, so I want to just clean up my game and the off season provides time to do that. Another big thing is to just play a lot of golf to keep my confidence up, at high level golf. I think the difference between a good day, and a bad day can just be playing with confidence!”
UCF won the tournament with a score of 32 under par.
The Jags begin their spring schedule on Feb. 23- Feb. 24 at the Momentum Transportation UNF Collegiate in Jacksonville, Fla.
