The Augusta University men’s golf team placed 16th at the Valspar Collegiate Invitational March 23-24 in Palm City, Fl.

After weeks of being near the top of the leaderboard, the Jaguars placed last.

“We obviously didn’t finish how we wanted, but we worked hard,” said freshman Josh Daniels.

This is Daniels’ third time in the starting five lineup with his second being due to a substitution.

“Most of us had issues in our game and grinded it out and played with what we had.”

In addition to Daniels, junior Mason Fundingsland also appeared in this week’s line up which was quite different from previous tournaments that featured Chapman Barnett and Dean Wilken.

Round one for the men was a steady start at two-over-par with Pieter Rossouw being the team leader and scoring three-under-par.

In round two they took a turn for the worst and shot 10-over-par as a team and Daniels shot the lowest score for an even 71.

The Jaguars wrapped up round three with a score of one-over-par and Daniels continued to lead with two-under-par.

Rossouw finished in T34, Daniels T62, Bo Blanchard T68, Stefan Jacobs 81st and Fundingsland 83rd.

It was a rough tournament for the Jaguars, and they hope to turn it around as they defend their own territory.

The Augusta University men’s golf will play at Forest Hills Golf Club April 4-5 for the Augusta Haskin’s Invitational.
