Augusta University’s Communication Department will host its annual CommuniCon events April 22-24.
CommuniCon is a student-run celebration of the communication major, offering a three-day program aimed at highlighting academic opportunities and connecting students with faculty, alumni and industry professionals.
With a “Falling down the rabbit hole” theme from the novel “Alice in Wonderland” by Lewis Carroll, the event is designed to bring together prospective students, current students and community members interested in communication-related fields.
The first day of the event, which will be open to the public, is scheduled to feature multiple vendors, representing communication clubs and organizations. Areas highlighted includes public relations, journalism, broadcasting and podcasting. Attendees will have the opportunity to speak directly with representatives, ask questions and learn more about academic programs and potential career paths. There will also be fun activities such as a bounce house, tie-dye station and potato sack race.
Day One will be held in front of the Maxwell Performing Arts Theatre. It begins at 11:30 a.m. and will last to 2:30 p.m
The second day of CommuniCon, held at the JSAC Coffeehouse at 11:30 a.m., will be limited to current communication students and is strongly encouraged for majors and minors within the department. The day will include a student award ceremony, as well as complimentary food and alum guest speakers who will discuss their professional experiences.
Speakers are expected to include Micah Webb, Julianna McGahee and Karleigh King. Following the program, students will be invited to participate in a raffle drawing for prizes.
The third and final day of the event, also to be held in the Coffeehouse, will also be restricted to communication students and alumni, and it will feature an alumni brunch. Organizers say the event is intended to highlight the impact of alumni while providing students with additional networking opportunities. The department will announce its student awards and 2026-2027 scholarship winners.
CommuniCon, hosted by students of the Communication Department, has expanded in both size and scope in recent years. Organizers say the event serves as an important opportunity to showcase the department’s growth while fostering connections among students, faculty and alumni.
