The new coffee shop and bakery had a grand opening celebration on Aug. 19, offering new menu items to customers. The storefront has been open since early August.

Relic is 100% family owned, serving authentic Ecuadorian coffees and breads. A selection of chocolates and roasted coffee beans are also available for customers to purchase.

Cesar Schettini, owner of Relic, said it’s been a dream for him and his family to start the business, matching his passion for coffee and experience as a baker.

“We believe coffee is like a relic,” he said. “And we take care of it.”

He added, “I’ve been making bread also, for many years. My sourdough starter that we use now is about eight years old.”

Schettini said they use simple ingredients as a way to showcase the authentic tastes of their specialties.

“It’s all about the balance of these flavors, you know,” he said.

Lauren Robbins, a local business owner, said having a coffee shop in Summerville is beneficial to the neighborhood.

“There’s a lot of great shops, restaurants and businesses and I think with it being such a historic area and so close to the university, it’s really important this area maintains this great, thriving sense of community,” she said.

There is indoor and outdoor seating for customers to enjoy, or they can opt to take brews with them on the go.

Relic open from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. They are also open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
